Prof. Dr. Sameh Ahmed KANTOUSH

Dr. Kantoush is currently an Associate Professor at Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University. He received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in civil and environmental engineering from Saga University in Japan and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, respectively. Prior to joining Kyoto, he served at The German University in Cairo (GUC) at the capacity of an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Program. His research interests span the fundamentals of shallow flow and sediment transport, Wadi Flash Flood, sustainability in reservoirs, and Transboundary Rivers. His joint research within the laboratory group is focusing on Ecohydraulics, dam impacts and sediment management techniques. Dr. Kantoush is collaboratively leading research for developing monitoring techniques such as Large Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) and image techniques, turbidity, sediment deposition thickness and sediment transport rate, for experimental and prototype investigations. He is a member in the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) and Syndicate of Engineers in Egypt. His industrial expertise is predominantly pertinent to infrastructure projects at multinational consulting firms in many countries. Dr. Kantoush lectures at Kyoto University in several domains including Fluid Mechanics, Introduction to Hydrology, Natural Disaster Science and Conflict Management in Global Water Issues.
